Dreams....

Hey!
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon The First Lime. I instantly fell in love with the blog/website and the girl who writes it sounds amazing! (her dog is SO adorable!)
The doodles all over the blog and the story behind the name are equally unique!
Her photography is amazing!

One of the sections of her blog is titled "dreams".
That's where I got the inspiration for this post. :)

MY DREAMS
write a cookbook
have my own restaurant or work at a fancy one
go to a nice culinary school

4th of July 2013

Hey all!
I know it's kinda weird to be writing about the 4th of July when it's July 5th!
(I was extremely busy at my Grandma's house ALL day....and had no WiFi)

For all my international readers who are wondering what the 4th of July is....this is for you. (it's to the point, but not worthy of the history books....)

The 4th of July is not just a day in the month of July in the United States of America.....it's the day we declared our independence from England! (sorry England....we still love you!) Some of us even call it Independence Day! Today, most of my fellow Americans (and I most of the time) just think of it as a time to eat watermelon, wear shorts, watch fireworks, swim or take part in some sort of water games, and enjoy the (usually) warm weather!

Now on to the real reason I'm writing this post....
I have a picture that my friend sent me that I just had to share with you guys!
I'm not exactly sure how she did it, but it's quite creative!

Papa in ICU...

Hi!

Here's the scoop:
My Grandpa (we all call him Papa) has been in ICU since last Tuesday.
(like I mentioned in another post)
He had a kidney and bladder infection that spread throughout his body and into his blood stream. 
He had to be put on a breathing machine thing. He had it for about a week. He got it out yesterday, though
he's still in the ICU. He will be moved to another room in a few days!
He's been enjoying foods that are on his "list".

Paula Deen kicked off the Food Network

Hey!
OK, well a few days ago I was at Pick Up Stix (one of my Dad's favorite restaurants) and on the TV was this:
"Breaking News: Paula Deen Kicked Off Food Network".

She apparently said the "N" word either on TV or somewhere else where people could hear. (I've heard different stories about where she was actually heard saying it)
 She was also accused of cracking racist jokes. I guess the cable channel just couldn't take it anymore - they are not continuing her contract.

I met Bobby Flay!!!!

Iron Chef Bobby Flay was at the Huntington Beach Barns and Noble about a month ago for one of his book signings. Chef Flay stars in his shows Bobby Flay's Barbecue Addiction (the title of his new book), Bruch @ Bobby's, Grill It! with Bobby Flay, and Throwdown with Bobby Flay. He co-stars in Food Network Star and Worst Cooks in America.

Everything Easter

Hey!
This will be my second post on this (new) blog!
Well tomorrow is EASTER...YAY....!!!!!
(I have to stop putting "!" after every sentence)

So, as I said...Easter is tomorrow--
and so I thought I might share with you a few of my  favorite Easter traditions, food, and just plain goodness!

 
This one is probably my Dad's favorite.....and one of mine too.
It's a food and a tradition. Isn't it weird how most traditions are food related (at least in my family they are)! :D

If you know my family, you know that we LOVE  Italian food.
(you should also know that my Dad is 100% Italian...but that will be later post)
ANYWAY 
The food/tradition is called Frittata.
Basically, it's an Italian omelet.
Try it!

Here's a picture of my 2009 (mind you, I was only 9 when I did this) Easter Lamb cake.
If I have time, I may post this year's cake. (I'm going to make it after this.)










My family also colors eggs.
Then my Grammy makes a special bread with the colored eggs tucked in.
The bread makes a "nest" for the eggs. It's really quite cute!

The Resurrection Eggs are one of the earliest traditions I can remember.
Starting 12 days before Easter, my family opens the first egg. When you reach the last day (Easter Sunday), there's a special surprise!

Among these traditions, my family still enjoys our yearly Easter Egg Hunt!
The Lord only knows how many Easter eggs are still hidden in my Grammy and Papa's back yard...as well as yards across the world! :)

Though these traditions are still fun, the best and most important tradition in my family is celebrating the death AND the resurrection of Jesus Christ!
